Cherry (Australian)
Flower Essences 15 ml
(Exocarpus cupressiformis)
The Australian Cherry flourishes in Eucalyptus forests where it can grow from three to eight metres high. Young Cherry trees will develop in open spaces but cannot support themselves for long without large Eucalyptus hosts. In this sense, they are similar to the Mistletoe, which grows parasitically on the branches of other trees. However, the Australian Cherry is a root parasite.
Similar in appearance to the Cypress, the fresh green of Cherry stands out easily against the brown or grey green of its Eucalyptus host. Cherry typically has hanging branches and very fine twigs, which can be mistaken for needles. The twigs are responsible for the photosynthesis of this plant. The actual leaves are so thin that they can barely be seen. Australian native cherries taste good when fully ripe. Early Australian settlers reportedly found Cherries with stones outside the fruit. The Cherry flowers in spring, but these creamy green blossoms are so minute (1 mm wide) that they can easily be missed.
