Mistletoe (She Oak) Flower Essences
(Amyema cambagei)
Mistletoes are parasites and there are 2000 varieties of them. The most commonly known is Viscum album. Mistletoe Therapy (Viscum album), by Iscador, advises using the entire plant for healing, especially cancer. If one uses the Mistletoe medicinally, it’s important to know the right Mistletoe and the tree it grows in. Certainly, not all Mistletoes can heal. Some useful ones include: Apple Tree Mistletoe, which assists against digestive and urino-genital tract growths; and Pine Tree Mistletoe for nose and throat problems.
While Viscum album is easily identifiable, even from a distance, the same cannot be said for She Oak Mistletoe. This grows exclusively on the She Oak (Podocarpus elatus) and copies the host tree so well that most people would never discover it even if they passed it in their own garden daily. The colour of its flower mimics the She Oak; only the shape is very different. Most Mistletoes have a fairly tasty but very sticky fruit pulp and the seeds of some varieties are poisonous. If in doubt, do not chew the seeds!
