The Silky Oak grows in Queensland and New South Wales. It is part of the Grevillea family, which has more than 340 species. After the Wattle and Eucalyptus, the Grevillea is the third largest genus in Australia. It can grow to 30 metres, making it the tallest of its genus. It likes to stand free and alone. The striking, golden flowers show in November for approximate four weeks and look like a giant hairbrush. These flowers that grow up to 17 cm draw not only everyone’s attention but also attract nectar-eating birds and insects.
